After the EDSA Revolution of 1986, UNIDO Chairman of Negros Oriental, Herminio G. Teves took his oath of office in May as officer-in­ charge of the Office of the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental.

On the same day, a vehicle of the Philippine National Oil Corporation (PNOC) was ambushed at Barangay Silab, Amlan. Twelve persons were killed, including six employees of the PNOC and three members of the Civilian Home Defense Forces (CHDF).
